Yimer Wude hold a new course Record in Sunfeast World 10K Run

Yimer Wude of Ethiopia created a new Course Record in Women section, even as Titus Mbieshei of Kenya bagged the gold in the 1,50,000 US Dollar Sunfeast World 10K Run here today.

Yimer Wude grabbed gold by finishing the run with a record timing of 31:58 secs and erased earlier timing of 32:02 secs held by Grace Momanyi, who was joint winner with Elvan Abeyelegesse of Turkey in the 2008 inaugual edition. Yimer Wude became richer by USD 21,000.

Defending champion Aselefech Mergia of Ethiopia has to be satisfied with Silver as she finished with timing of 32:00 secs.

Grace Momanyi of Kenya, the flag bearer of the Kenyan team at the Opening Ceremony of 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, won Bronze.

In Men section, Titus Mbieshei, regrouped his energy to finish the run 0:48 secs (27:54secs) pushing back Moses Kipsiro of Uganda to grab gold. Feyisa Lelisa of Keniya won Bronze.

In Elite Women India Section, National athlete of International fame Preethi L Rao grabbed gold. Preethi, who had won the inaugural title in 2008 and finished third last year, did not give scope for other runners to overtake her. In fact she was almost two minutes ahead of her nearest rival M Sudha who finished with a timing of 39:25 secs to win silver.

Kamalesh Baghel bagged bronze with a timing of 39:43 secs.

”This time I had decided to touch the tape to lift the gold and right from the beginning focused fully on my run and the concentration was fruitful. This win would certainly help me in achieving the best in the Commonwealth Games in October,” she added.
