BANDON — The Langlois Public Library and the Langlois Lions Club is sponsoring “Ethiopia – A Cultural Tour” with former Peace Corps volunteer Charles “Sam” Geer at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, at the Langlois Lions Club.
Geer’s presentation on Ethiopia will include a slide show on the traditional construction of a village home as well as a “hands-on” sharing of instruments, crafts and photos of this unique East African country. Everyday and common items such as language, clocks, religion, calendars, meals and clothes discovered during Geer’s many travels in Ethiopia will highlight some of our cultural differences.
Geer is a graduate of University of Colorado with a degree in arts education and a minor in anthropology. He joined the Peace Corps in 1966. His 25-year final career was directing a retraining and re-employment program for dislocated workers with the Idaho State AFL-CIO. Since retiring, Geer has returned to painting landscapes and is active with the Bay Area Artists Association.
Ethiopian coffee will be served at the event. For further information, call the Langlois Library at 541-348-2066 or Deanna McDermott at 541-348-2507.
