South Sudan Peace Concert Staged in Ethiopia

Musicians from South Sudan held on Saturday (January 04) in Addis Ababa a peace concert aiming at urging parties to put a stop to the violence in the world’s newest nation. Khor Deng Jang, Chairperson for South Sudan Artists Association in Ethiopia (SSAAE), spoke to the media that the objective of this peace concert is a call for peace and reconciliation in South Sudan, calling on all parties to settle their differences and resolve the crisis through a negotiated political means. Lul Tuach Dojiok, Deputy Chair of the SSAAE, urged artists to act neutrally and work for peace, calling upon all parties to take the national interest of South Sudan above any other matter. Gatwech Koak Nyuon, South Sudan Peace Ambassador, also attended the concert and appealed the leaders of the warring parties to stand for peace and not war. He also told the gathering to “Stop advocating for war but focus on how these two warring parties should return to one country, one beautiful party as well as one nation.” He further stated that “We need to collaborate to make peace happen and ignore the divide so that peace would quickly come.” the peace concert was staged at Gerji Hall near Unity University brought together around 800 people.
