JOINT operatives of Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Station 1 and intelligence operatives arrested on August 16 a suspect involved in the robbing and killing of a 22-year-old Ethiopian student after two months of manhunt.
The victim, Senai Mehary Kiros, was robbed and killed last June 13.
Police identified the suspect as Gerlon Bambilla, 35 years old, native of Bangud, Abra, and a resident of Dominican Hill.
Bambilla was arrested along Leonard Wood Road.
Bambilla’s arrest was made by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 6 Judge Cleto Villacorta III for robbery with homicide with a recommended bail of P200,000 for his temporary liberty.
Kiros, a student of AMA Computer College, was shot after he resisted and ran away from the three suspects who held him up and his companion, Korode Aderinsola Ogundele, 23, a Nigerian student of the University of Baguio.
Taken from Ogundele were cellular phone and money worth P500.
Kiros was pronounced dead on arrival at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.
BCPO officials revealed Bambilla was identified through the computerized facial composite or the computerized version of the cartographic sketch as described by the companion of the victim and was further confirmed through mug files.
Police said Bambilla is also the suspect, together with another cohort, in an alleged robbery committed at about 3:25 a.m. last August 8 at Quezon Hill Proper.
Also stolen from the victim were a bank passbook, assorted credit and identification cards, passport and a laptop worth P40,000.
The suspect was also identified by the victim through mug files of the police station who was also found out to be a suspect of another theft incident as early as 2006.
Bambilla is now detained at the Baguio City jail while awaiting trial.
