Indonesian Pharmaceutical Firm Interested in Ethiopia – 2merkato – Ethiopian Business Portal

The Indonesian pharmaceutical company, Sanbe Farma Company, is aiming to invest in pharmaceuticals industry of Ethiopia. Such was disclosed by the company’s president, Dr. Jahja Santose.


The company’s president met with Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. The 2 exchanged views on potential investment sectors in Ethiopia and other related matters during their meeting.
Santose also met with Board Chairperson of Industrial Parks Development Corporation, Arkebe Oqubay.

After his discussion with Hailemariam, Santose went on a visit to some industrial zones as part of a feasibility study to engage in Ethiopia’s pharmaceutical sector. “Now we are planning to do feasibility study on those products to be manufactured here,” he explained.

The plan is to manufacture injection medicine, making it the first of such investment in Ethiopia. According to Ethiopian News Agency, such will enable Ethiopia to import substitute the products.

Sanbe Farm was established in 1975 and it is now operating in 20 countries. The company has been providing its products to the Ethiopian market for the past decade.
