The day commemorates the bloody sacrifices paid by Ethiopian heroes and heroines for their country’s freedom. In the capital, Addis Ababa, the day was celebrated on Saturday at the Patriots’ Monument in the presence of senior government officials, veterans and residents. “There were a lot of ups and downs and killings; but our army endured up until the end and turned victorious,” said the veterans. “Although our army didn’t have proper rifles, men and women fought day and night while others delivered food and water to the wariors.” Ethiopian Parliament Speaker, Abadula Gemeda, who took part in the anniversary, also laid flower wreath under the patriots’ monument. Abdula said the new generation should rally behind Ethiopia’s developmental commitments to extricate the nation out of poverty and backwardness. “This generation has the responsibility of transferring the history of the country to the coming group,” Abadula said. “Above all, it should actively take part in various developmental endeavors of the country to realize a prosperous Ethiopia
