Ethiopian Kinfe Fekadu Appointed Virgin Nigeria CEO

Lagos — Ethiopian aviation expert, Kinfa Fekado, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Virgin Nigeria recently acquired by Jimoh Ibrahim. Fekado, 47, was until his appointment on Tuesday by the board of Virgin Nigeria, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Ethiopia Airline.

He takes over from Dapo Olumide, bringing with him years of experience in the aviation industry. The board, which met in Lagos, also appointed Steven Ojo as Executive Director (ED) Accounts and Finance, and S. Tadafera ED (Treasury).

It advised Olumide to hand over to Fekado. Olumide was expected at the meeting but he did not show up. He did not give reasons for his absence.

There were reports on Monday that he resigned his appointment with effect from Tuesday. The board approved the opening of letter of credit for the purchase of two new aircraft, to be financed by United Bank for Africa (UBA).

Members of Virgin Nigeria Board are Ibrahim, Godwin Eze-Iyamu (Vice Chairman), Jim Okeowo, Nda Isaiah (Leadership publisher), Stephen Ogedengbe, Emmanuel Jegede (NICON Managing Director, MD), and Isioma Chukwuma, (Nigeria Re MD).

Ibrahim disclosed last weekend that he has bought controlling shares in the company, and promised to reinvigorate its operations for better performance.
