Ethiopia Marks 7th National Flag Day

Tens of thousands of residents of Addis Ababa marked the 7th National Flag Day at the Addis Ababa Stadium.

President Mulatu Teshome (guest of honor), House Speaker Abadula Gemeda, Mayor Diriba Kuma, state chiefs, other high ranking government officials, tens of thousands of Addis Ababa residents, ambassadors, and invited guests were present at the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, President Mulatu said the National Flag is a symbol of the democratic unity of Ethiopia’s Nations, Nationalities and Peoples.

He hailed and honored the sacrifices made by martyrs who paid the ultimate price to build the current democratic and constitutional system.

The President stated that Ethiopia is a country united in diversity, where its people are changing the course of its history from poverty and destitution into one of pride, prosperity and growth.

He called on all Ethiopians to renew their resolve and commitment into realizing the country’s development goals by exerting their level best.

President Mulatu encouraged and urged the young generation to preserve the country’s long history and legacy and pass it on to the next generation.

He noted that Ethiopia is making impressive growth and its mega projects are well underway as scheduled, setting the country’s vision of achieving a middle income country well within sight.

President Mulatu warned against religious extremism and called on all the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples of Ethiopia to fight this challenge which is an obstacle for peace and development.

The President expressed his gratitude to the men and women of the Armed Forces whose selfless services are not only protecting the Constitutional system in the country, but also protecting peace and security across Africa in peace keeping missions.

He concluded his speech by thanking Ethiopians for the constructive roles they have played in restoring the nation’s pride and spearheading the country’s development agenda.

The celebrations of the 7th National Flag Day concluded with raising the Ethiopian Flag at the Addis Ababa Stadium.
