Foreign Minister Dr Tedros Adhanom met on Monday (January 12) with President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir of Sudan on the sidelines of the “Special Consultation in Support of the IGAD-led South Sudan Peace Process.”
Discussions covered issues related to the significance of maintaining the momentum of the continued cooperation in all-rounded bilateral relations and catalyzing the furtherance of the partnership of the two countries in regional peace, security and development. Both sides reached consensus on the importance of expediting the cooperative partnership of the two friendly countries for the benefit of all peoples.
Both sides also reiterated the importance of a negotiated political settlement of the crisis in South Sudan to the interest and need of the people of the country, agreeing that embracing a peaceful means to the conflict by the parties would set the course for the creation of a secure, harmonious and prosperous region. President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir underscored that Sudan was keen to witness a stable, unified and secure South Sudan. Dr Tedros Adhanom also unveiled that Ethiopia was undertaking preparations to send a public diplomacy team to Khartoum soon so as to cement the people-to-people relations of the two countries.
