Customers Keep Complain on EthioTelecom Service, Problems Gets Worse

Ethio Telecom customers are complaining about growing problems with the mobile and internet service network.
Even though, the sole telecom provider has recently concluded a huge expansion project in terms of telecom and other IT services, the network problem has been growing in the past few months.
Customers told Capital that mobile network is becoming worse as time goes on.
Recently, the state owned telecom enterprise has announced that its mobile subscribers have reached over 10 million, while CDMA and EVDO usage has also been increasing in the past budget year.
The increment in the number of subscribers has come about following the expansion project that was undertaken by ZTE, Chinese Telecom Company, at the cost of 1.5 billion dollars since 2007.Cellphonetower Ethiopia
“Even though the expansion is completed and the number of subscribers increased, the telecom service has not registered a good performance in terms of quality,” customers said.
“In the past few months it has been difficult to make phone calls when there is no power,” customers added.
According to the expansion deal, the transmission towers that have been erected throughout the country and in different places in the various towns are expected to work any time even when power interruptions occur. “When there are power cuts, it is difficult to get any network even if you are around one of the transmission towers,” customers explained.
According to customers, even when the network is available voice distortion can still be a problem.
According to residents in the capital city, calling especially during discount airtimes is becoming difficult. “Hearing a busy tone, no voice or being told the dialled phone is out of service area has become normal, even while both the caller and call receiver sit together,” customers explained.
Short message delays and connection cuts after clients start talking to one another are other problems observed from time to time. >> Read More on CapitalEthiopia
