COMMONWEALTH gold medalist, Ese Brume, is hoping to grab four gold medals for Team Nigeria in this year’s African Junior Athletics Championship holding in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from March 3 to 7.
19-year-old Brume won the long jump event at both the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the African Senior Athletics Championship in Morocco last year. She is among the 34 athletes (20 female and 14 male) listed by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) for the trip to Addis Ababa.
The AFN has listed Brume to compete in the long jump and 100/200/4x100m events, but she told The Guardian yesterday that she would also compete in the triple jump event.
Two years ago in Mauritius, Brume competed as an U-17 athlete and got two gold medals and a silver to take Team Nigeria to the top of the table ahead of South Africa.
She was beaten to the triple jump gold medal by an athlete from Lesotho, a defeat Brume is looking forward to avenging in Addis Ababa next month.
“I will compete in the long jump, triple jump, 100m and 4x100m and I am sure of getting the four gold medals this time,” Brume told The Guardian. “I will join other athletes in camp at Shagamu this weekend and I am very sure the training I have been undergoing in Benin City will help me.”
