Ethiopian troops serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) arrived in Bulo Burde Tuesday (January 6th) to distribute food aid, Somalia’s Goobjoog News reported.
The Somali government dispatched about 10 trucks carrying food supplies to the area for distribution to families displaced by drought and al-Shabaab blockades.
The Ethiopian troops will escort food aid convoys headed to Hiran and Galgadud regions, said Mohamed Mumin Saney, military commander of Mahas district.
“Their mission in here is to fight al-Shabaab and to reach out support to the blockade affected villages in Hiran and Galgadud regions,” Bulo Burde District Commissioner Osman Gedi Elmi said according to Somali Current. “Bulo Burde has been under blockade more than a year.”
