Ethiopians in Sweden Contribute 165000 SEK for Gerd

Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin living in Stockholm, Sweden contributed 165,000 SEK for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

They made the contribution during GERD fund raising program organized by GERD Council in Stockholm in collaboration with Ethiopian Embassy on September 21, 2014 to celebrate the Ethiopian New Year.

Ambassador of Ethiopia to Sweden and other Nordic Countries, Ambassador Woinshet Tadesse, on the occasion said that last year was a year of many successes for Ethiopia in terms of economic growth and making its voice heard globally.

Ethiopia maintained the fast economic growth it has registered over the past ten years last year as well, she said. Impressive growths were registered in the agricultural and industry sectors during the year.

Ambassador Woinshet also briefed participants about the Addis Ababa Light Railway Project, which is nearing completion, the Addis Ababa-Djibouti railway project, and GERD, which is now 40 per cent complete.

She finally urged participants to contribute their part for the success of the national elections to be held this Ethiopian fiscal year.

GERD Fund Raising Council Chairperson in Stockholm, Fitsum Haile, for his part thanked Ethiopians in Sweden as well as Ethiopian artists for their contribution and efforts to make GERD a success.

More than 400 Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia living in Sweden attended the event.
