Ethiopian born Sosina Wogayehu performs on the popular Australian TV show competition  Australia’s Got Talent.

Sosina was born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 1978. She started doing gymnastics at the age of 7, and was Ethiopian Gymnastics Champion at ages 9 and 11. She joined Circus Ethiopia in 1993, and toured the world for five years as an acrobat, contortionist and dancer, including performances at the Adelaide Festival, the Womad Festival in England, and a performance for the Queen of the Netherlands.

Sosina moved to Australia in 1998. In 1999 she completed a Diploma in Small Companies and Community Theatre at Swinburne University, including spending a month doing work experience with Australia’s flagship contemporary circus, Circus Oz, and participating in a Melbourne Women’s Circus community performance.

Beside the circus Sosina involves in acts too. She appeared on the famous 2005 Peter Jackson’s King Kong movie with a small part. She told for Ethiopiaforums.com, she could have a bigger role if it was not conflict with her full time job with one of the Australian biggest  circus group Circus oz.

She said “The role that I played in the movie was as Josephine Baker (She was a famous dancer, performer) from 1930′s. I loved every moment of it”

Do you visit Ethiopia soon?

“Actually I just came back from a 3 months vacation in Ethiopia. Because of my job with the circus I traveled most of the time of the year from places to places, cities and countries and every time I get a chance I go back home (Ethiopia) to have a private and peaceful time with my family.”

Sosina is a mother of a 1 year old baby girl.

Ethiopiaforums also asked her what she is doing regarding giving back to her country and projects she is working on.

“I do fundraise to help circus performers in Ethiopia with materials, costumes and marketing. I have few ideas I am working on and there will be something big soon. I have projects that mainly involves with endogenous Australian. I travel a lot places to run a workshops and I would like to have a talent agent for Africans here in Australia.”

Finally we asked her to share her secret for success and advice to young circus performers and generally for everybody.

“My message for fellow Ethiopians is Dream big. If we all have given an opportunity the sky is the limit. Don’t wait for the opportunity to turn up instead go and find it. Use your time. And remember why you left Ethiopia and make sure you are successful in whichever way you chose to be.”
