Since migration and mobility of people in the continent is increasing, Ethiopia and UNHCR should work more closely to address the issue in the Horn of Africa.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative in Ethiopia has praised the excellent relation it has with the government of Ethiopia and the hospitality accorded to refugees in the region.
During talks with Foreign Affairs State Minister Taye Atske-sellasie Thursday, UNHCR Representative in Ethiopia Clemetine Nkweta-Salami said Ethiopia has an excellent relations with UNHCR.
The officials discussed bilateral issues on further strengthening partnerships to minimize the challenges related to migration and mobility, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed.
Nkweta-Salami noted that since migration and mobility of people in the continent is increasing, Ethiopia and UNHCR should work more closely to address the issue in the Horn of Africa.
The State Minister on his part lauded UNHCR for its contribution to curb challenges related to refugees in Ethiopia as well as across the region.
In this regard, he described the coordination between UNHCR and Administration for Refugee and Returnee Affairs (ARRA) of Ethiopia as exceptional.
Ambassador Taye mentioned that Ethiopia does not only have an open door policy with regard to refugees but also a welcoming culture on the part of the Ethiopian community for people coming from abroad.
Further cooperation was demanding since the migration issue was dire in the Horn of Africa, the state minister stressed.
