The breathtaking change taking place in Ethiopia and Eritrea is too much even for the internet giant Google. Days after announcing Ethiopia and Eritrea have declared the end of war and normalizing relationship between the two countries, Google Maps still show as the border crossing as closed. A trip from Addis Ababa to the historic and beautiful city of Asmara detours you via Sudan, taking more than 24 hours.
The most direct way to Eritrea’s capital from Addis is via Route 2, passing the towns of Debre Birhan, Dessie, Woldiya, Adigrat, Zela Ambessa and finally crossing to Eritrea.
But you have a choice. Before there was a Google, there was Mapquest. So hit the road using Mapquest map, for the ultimate road trip between Addis and Asmara
