Ethiopia: Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) Amhara Region, Round 9: January/February 2018 – Summary of key findings – Ethiopia

AMHARA REGION – KEY FINDINGS

LOCATION AND CAUSE OF DISPLACEMENT: 12,100 displaced individuals comprising 2,412 households in 23 displacement sites were identified in Amhara region*. These figures represent an increase of 531 in the total individuals (+4.59%) an increase of 29 households(+1.22%) and 1 site (+4.55%) since round 8 (November/December 2017). 26.09% sites opened in 2017, no sites have opened in 2018.
Conflict was the primary cause of displacement for an estimated 74% of the displaced population.

DEMOGRAPHICS: 52% of displaced individuals were female and 48% were male. 57% were younger than 18 years old. 5% were over 60 years old.

SHELTER: 4 sites reported that over 25% of households were living in shelters that were below standard.

WASH: Only 3 sites meet SPHERE standards of access to over 15 liters of water per person per day. 8 (35%) displacement sites reported having no toilets.

FOOD, NUTRITION AND LIVELIHOODS: 20 (87%) sites, representing 11,475 individuals, reported no access to food. 65% of sites reported that IDPs did not have access to income generating activities

HEALTH: Malaria was the primary health concern in this round of data collection with 8 sites reporting this.

EDUCATION: In 9% of sites 50% or less of the children on site are attending school. Formal primary school education is available at 23 sites.
Alternative basic education (ABE) is available at 6 sites.

COMMUNICATION: 70% of sites reported that local leaders were IDPs primary source of information followed by families and friends at 22% of sites.
Figure 1 illustrates trends in stock totals of displacement in the region over time compared to recent displacement. Figure 2 shows IDP numbers dissagregated by cause over time.
