Position Summary:

CNFA is currently seeking applications from qualified candidates for its Chief of Party (COP) of an anticipated livestock development project in Ethiopia. The COP is responsible for providing overall leadership management and general technical direction of the entire program, ensuring an integrated vision among different components and actors, and a focus on achieving the results defined in the contract. This individual will be expected to identify issues and risks related to program implementation in a timely manner, and suggest appropriate program adjustments. The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the agricultural/livestock sector in the Horn of Africa, particularly in supporting local community initiatives that utilize value chain analysis to increase agricultural productivity and exports, increase local incomes, and reduce poverty. He/she will act as the key liaison between USAID/Ethiopia and all other counterparts, implementing partners and Government of Ethiopia officials involved with the program. The position requires significant coordination skills, broad general and technical knowledge, experience in developing countries and skills to ensure coherence and consistency in spite of urgent deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in international development, livestock, agriculture, economics or related field of study;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including advanced ICT skills especially as pertain to applications for livestock/agriculture and value chain development;
  • Familiarity with agricultural/livestock production and market-linkage constraints in the Horn of Africa;
  • Experience implementing activities related to agricultural/livestock productivity and association development;
  • Private sector agribusiness experience is highly desirable;
  • Verbal and written fluency in English required;
  • Local applicants are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Ten years of progressively responsible work experience in managing and implementing livestock or agricultural development programs with demonstrated strong management and coordinating skills;
  • Ten years of progressively responsible supervisory work experience including direct supervision of professional and support staff and assembling teams working on multi-faceted international development programs;
  • Substantial management experience and knowledge of project management, private sector development, gender mainstreaming and working in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Prior USAID Chief of Party experience required;
