Amhara State earns 827 million birr from tourism

Lalibela Selamta MagazineAddis Ababa, Ethiopia (WIC) – The Amhara Regional State Culture, Tourism and Parks Development Bureau earned 827 million birr from tourism in the first half of this budget year.

Bureau Planning, Follow-up and Evaluation Coordinator, Habtamu Alene, told WIC today that the stated sum of revenue was obtained from a total of more than 3.9 million domestic and foreign tourists who visited attraction sites in the state.

Compared to the same period last year, the revenue earned in the first six months exceeded by 58.9 million birr, while tourists flow increased by over 696, 400 tourists, according to Habtamu.

The efforts made inside and outside Ethiopia to promote the historical, religious, ancient and natural tourist destination contributed a lot for the increase in revenue and tourists flow, he said.

The regional state has a plan to earn 1.4 billion birr in revenue from the 7.3 billion tourists expected to visit the state this budget year, it was learnt.
